This is a tough one and probably one of the questions I am asked most. "How do I figure out my girlfriend's ring size?" It can be pretty tricky especially if you don't want her to have any idea you are planning on proposing. I have put together some pretty clever tricks I have heard over the years from customers, friends and family members.
1. This one is easy - get a hold of the rings she currently wears. Obviously it is better if she is wearing it on her left ring finger...but most likely she is waiting for you to put a ring on that finger. If you can get a ring she wears on her right ring finger we can generally size it pretty close.
2. At a completely innocuous time, ask your girlfriend for her measurements. Do not do it around Valentines Day, her birthday, Christmas, or any other holiday. This is too suspicious. Ask her for all her sizes - coat, gloves, sweater, jeans...and most importantly, ring size. All of these things are important to know for future gift buying.
3. The String. In my opinion, this is pretty stupid and you really risk getting caught. This idea behind this is you tie a string around your girlfriend's finger while she is sleeping and use that to figure out her ring size. This one is just too high-risk.
4. These days a lot of couples go ring shopping together. Pay very close attention to which ring she tries on. When you come back later to purchase the ring, we can use the rings that fit her as a guide.
After she says yes, which hopefully she does, come back and visit us. We love to see our customers happy and we'll make sure the ring fits perfectly then.
